Minister Thembi Simelane addressed the South African Development Community (SADC) Law seminar at the University of Fort Hare via Zoom on 31 October 2024.

Minister Thembi Simelane connects via a Zoom link from Cape Town to deliver welcoming remarks at the Johannesburg conference on the 2010 Kampala Amendments to the Rome Statute on 30 October 2024.

Chief Justice Mandisa Maya met with the Director-General as well other members of the judiciary to get first hand insight of the working conditions in courts. The meeting took place on 21 October at the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court.

Director-General, Advocate Doc Mashabane visited the Free State Provincial Office to offer his heartfelt condolences to staff after the loss of their colleague, Mr Vuyo Blouw. The visit took place on 21 October 2024.

Deputy Minister, Mr Andries Nel and his counterpart from the Department of Transport Mr Mkhuleko Hlengwa met with teams from R oad Accident Fund, Solicitor General and State Attorneys to discuss possible solutions on RAF challenges and its impact on the Justice S ystem, the meeting took place at the National Office on 28 October 2024.

The Safety, Health, Environment, Risk and Quality Management (SHERQ) Directorate handed over certificates to officials who participated in the First Aid and Firefighting training earlier this year. The handover took place on 14 October 2024 at the auditorium in Momentum building-Pretoria.

Brigitte Mabandla Justice College (BMJC) rendered court interpreting training to Tshwane University of Technology Language practice students on 11 October 2024 at Soshanguve North Campus.

Minister Thembi Simelane, accompanied by Director General Doc Mashabane, attended Chief Justice Raymond Zondo’s farewell gala dinner which was held in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg on 20 August 2024.

Deputy Minister Andries Nel launched the Thuthuzela Care Centre in Mitchells Plain in Cape Town on 19 August 2024.

Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development hosted a media briefing to outline departmental priorities and address matters of public interest at GCIS Headquarters in Pretoria on 16 August 2024.

The Department, in collaboration with the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, supported the 18th conference and annual general meeting of the South African Chapter of International Association of Women Judges. The event was held in Durban from 9-11 August 2024.

Justice Minister Thembi Simelane tabled the Department’s Budget Vote speech in Parliament where she outlined priorities of the Department and allocations for the current financial year on 17 July 2024.

The Minister and Deputy Minister, Ms Thembi Simelane and Mr Andries Nel attended a “meet and greet” session with the Chief Magistrate’s Forum in Cape Town on 23 July 2024.

Minister Thembi Simelane, together with Deputy Minister Andries Nel and Director-General Advcate Doc Mashabane visited Grandmothers Against Poverty and Aids (GAPA), located in Khayelitsha as part of celebrating Mandela Day on 18 July 2024.

The Department hosted two student lectures to commemorate Mandela Month at Walter Sisulu and Fort Hare Universities on 17 and 19 July 2024, respectively.

President Cyril Ramaphosa led the swearing-in ceremony of the new Minister and Deputy Minister of the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CITCC) on 3 July 2024.

Communication Management conducted an activation of Departmental Values at Brigitte Mabandla Justice College on 27 June 2024.

The Department hosted a 2-day Career Expo for grade 12 learners and law students from around Gauteng. This took place at Brigitte Mabandla Justice College on 26 to 27 June 2024.

The Department, in collaboration with Baviaanspoort Correctional Facility, hosted a Youth Offenders Dialogue at Baviaanspoort Youth Centre on 26 June 2024.

Justice College Opening Brigitte Mabandla Justice College, Pretoria. Justice Minister Ronald Lamola officially opened the refurbished Justice College, which was unveiled to its new name and identity, the Brigitte Mabandla Justice College in Pretoria on 24 May 2024.

Minister Ronald Lamola and Public Zikalala, officially opened the refurbished Polokwane Magistrate Court in Limpopo on 10 May 2024.

About 150 court interpreters were awarded National Diploma in Legal Interpreting at the official opening of the refurbished Brigitte Mabandla Justice College, Pretoria, on 24 May 2024.

Director-General Advocate Doc Mashabane hosted the National Disability Awareness Conference under the theme: ’’Advancing and promoting the Rights of persons with Disabilities” at Justice College, Pretoria on 21 May 2024.

Director-General, Advocate Doc Mashabane welcomed the delegation from the Namibian Ministry of Justice who visited the Department to learn more about the SA legislation. The meeting took place in Pretoria from 13-17 May 2024.

Director-General Advocate Doc Mashabane, accompanied by Court Administration Deputy Director-General Mr Charles Mohalaba, addressed Free State provincial office staff together with State Attorneys’ and Masters’ Offices staff respectively. He also introduced the new acting Provincial head, Mr Donald Makhani on 3 May 2024.

President Cyril Ramaphosa, Minister Ronald Lamola alongside other dignitaries celebrated the National Freedom Day hosted by the Presidency at the Union Buildings on 27 April 2024.

As part of celebrating 30 years of Freedom, Proudly SA flighted a billboard in Times Square, New York.

Director-General, Advocate Doc Mashabane addressed officials from the Pretoria Master’s Office on fraud and corruption allegedly committed by senior managers and other officials within the office. The address took place at Salu Building in Pretoria on 29 April 2024.

The Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court was officially opened by Deputy Minister John Jeffery and Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Sihle Zikalala on Friday, April 19 2024.

The Pretoria Master’s Office awarded certificates to 13 law students from UNISA for completing a three-week shadowing programme in Pretoria on 26 April 2024.

Officials from the Department visited the Soshanguve Changing Spot, Bosman Taxi Rank and Thembisa Magistrate’s Court where they engaged the public about court and Master’s services, the Constitution and maintenance services as a build up to celebrate Freedom Day from 22-26 April 2024.

The Departmental officials attended an information session on bullying and sexual harassment in the workplace. The session took place at Momentum Building, Pretoria on 25 April 2024.
