The follow-up meeting took place 31 January 2023.
The Department in partnership with other stakeholders hosted a Learner Dialogue on constitutional education at Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Facility on 3 February 2023. The dialogue was supported by the Deputy Director-General Legislative Development, Ms Kalayvani Pillay.

The Office of the Chief Family held a two-day conference to discuss the ramifications and effects of Gender-Based Violence to children. The conference took place in Durban from 7-8 December 2022.
Justice College, in collaboration with the Office of Chief State Law Advisor hosted an online training on legislative drafting. The session was facilitated by Ms Tsitsi Chitsiku, Legislative Drafter from Falklands Islands from 5-7 December 2022. Participants were also given certificate of attendance by the Justice College.
Deputy Minister John Jeffery, together with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) led a march against the scourge of bullying at the Durban beachfront in KwaZulu-Natal on 3 December 2022.

Deputy Minister John Jeffery, together with the Judiciary and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), hosted Ugandan delegates who came to South Africa to learn more about the country’s criminal justice system, particularly sexual offences courts. The visit was part of assisting the Ugandan government to strengthen its own legal system. The meeting was held at Salu Building, Pretoria, on 28 November 2022.
The Department re-launched Orange Day which was initially launched in 2014 in order to unite nations to end Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF). Orange Day is celebrated on the 25th of each month and the ‘colour orange’ symbolises a brighter future, free of violence. The relaunch and official opening during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence took place at National office, Momentum Building on 25 November 2022.
The Office of the Solicitor-General hosted a two-day stakeholder engagement workshop, looking at the challenges and possible solutions regarding the legal fraternity in the country. The event was held at Premier Hotel, Kempton Park on 23 - 24 November 2022.

Justice women recently celebrated Women’s Month in style at Orion Safari Lodge in Rustenburg, North West. The celebration, held on 19 August 2022, saw ladies and few of their male counterpart clad in vintage clothing in celebration of the Women’s Month under the theme: ‘Women’s Socio-Economic Rights and Empowerment: building back better for women’s resilience’. Director-General, Advocate Doc Mashabane was also in attendance.

The South African Chapter: International Association of Women Judges and their male counterparts recently met to look at the overview of the National Strategic Plan on Gender-based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) and the its three amended legislation. The discussions took place at UNISA with Chief Justice Raymond Zondo giving a keynote address on 06 August 2022.

The DG conducted a court staff meeting with Pretoria Magistrate’s Court officials where he engaged them on a number of issues directly affecting them and the operations on 05 August 2022.
DG Mashabane conducted unannounced visits at Heidelberg, Johannesburg Magistrate Courts and Pretoria Master’s Office respectively on 4 August 2022. He met court stakeholders and discussed issues relating to the courts and service delivery.
DG Mashabane recently visited the Mpumalanga High Court, Mbombela Magistrate’s Court and Masoi Branch Court respectively on 12 August 2022. This formed part of the DG’s visits to provinces to monitor service delivery and observe challenges in the court environment.

On 18 July 2022, the Mpumalanga Regional Office brought smiles to the children of Thabang Disability Centre at Clau-clau, in Nelspruit. The officials raised funds to buy groceries, cooked and cleaned for the children.
The Limpopo Region officials, together with the Department of Correctional Services spent thier 67 minutes where they painted and refurbished the dilapidated Mookgopong Magistrate’s Court on 18 July 2022.

Closing off the Youth Month, the Department invited youth from all the regions: they engaged in talks about their future within Justice. The event was held at Radisson Hotel, Kempton Park in Gauteng on 24 June 2022. The day saw engagements with speakers from external entities and the Department’s Director-General, Advocate Doc Mashabane.
On 20 June 2022, The Director-General, Advocate Doc Mashabane introduced the new North West Regional Head, Ms Jennifer Ngema, to the staff and stakeholders.
The National Register for Sex Offenders (NRSO) conducted a two-day workshop to decentralise the services to the regions as part of access to justice. The workshop took place at Momentum Building, National Offi ce on 27-28 June 2022.
KwaZulu-Natal Regional Offi ce hosted Children’s Rights dialogue at Ulundi Multipurpose Centre, which targeted the teenagers from surrounding areas on 24 May 2022.

Justice and Correctional Services Minister, Ronald Lamola travelled to Cofimvaba in the Eastern Cape to hand over the remains of a Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) struggle heroes who were sentenced to death by the Apartheid government on 27 May 2022.
The Department hosted the World Conference Against Racism (WCAR), which reflected on the 20 years since its inception. In addition, the event assessed the progress made towards the implementation of South Africa’s National Action Plan (NAP) to Combat Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance. The two-day gathering was held in Kempton Park, Gauteng, on 23-24 May 2022.
As part of the Justice Learner Campaign, the Department hosted about 90 learners from various schools around Pretoria on 25 May 2022. The schools included Mamelodi High School, Ribanelaka Secondary School and Phelindaba High School from Atteridgeville where learners were exposed in various career opportunities in Justice.

On 6 April 2022, Director General, Advocate Doc Mashabane visited three courts in the Free State. The visit formed part of celebrating 25 years Anniversary of the Constitution as this year was declared as “Year of the Community”.
Director-General Advocate Doc Mashabane visited Kimberley Regional Office on 5 April 2022 to inform staff about the “Year of the Community” and also appreciate them for the work they do to help the community.
Galeshewe Magistrate’s Court was visited by the Director-General to appreciate staff for the work they do to help the community despite the challenges that they experience in the court. The visit took place on 5 April 2022.
