Deputy Minister Nel to conclude National Wills Week Campaign in Mthatha

18 September 2025

The Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mr. Andries Nel, in partnership with participating stakeholders and members of the legal profession, will conclude the National Wills Week campaign Mthatha on Friday, 19 September 2025.

The National Wills Week initiative which commenced on 15 September 2025, is a campaign which is observed annually in the month of September. It enhances access to justice by affording members of the public an opportunity to learn about the importance of having a valid will and the need for estate planning.

During this period, members of the public can have their wills drafted free of charge with the help of participating legal practitioners. Drafting a will ensures that a person’s estate is administered in accordance with their wishes after their death.

Attorneys from the Master of the High Court’s offices, other legal practitioners in the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development as well as legal practitioners from private law firms have been assisting the public to draft their wills at no cost during the National Wills Week. Drafting assistance will be available during the morning and the afternoon.

Members of the media are invited to attend and cover the opening session of the event as follows:
