The Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mr Andries Nel, and the Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Ms Nonceba Mhlauli, will officially launch a Small Claims Court at the Pampierstad Magistrate’s Court in the Frances Baard District Municipality in the Northern Cape province. The launch event is scheduled to take place on Monday 03 March 2025 and will be attended by various stakeholders in the legal sector, including the Court Commissioners who will preside over cases.
The establishment of the Small Claims Court forms part of the Department’s ongoing efforts to enhance access to justice by bringing legal service closer to communities.
These courts provide a quicker and easy way of resolving minor civil disputes of amounts not exceeding R20 000.
By eliminating the need for legal representation, Small Claims Courts ensure that justice remain accessible to all, especially to individuals who may not have the financial representation to engage legal practitioners.
