Deputy Ministers of the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster will address the media on the Review of the Criminal Procedure Act, following the publication by the South African Law Reform Commission (SALRC) of four discussion papers for public comment on: Date: Thursday, 20 February 2025 Time: 14h00 Venue: Ronnie Mamoepa Media Centre, GCIS Headquarters, Hatfield, Pretoria
The Review of the Criminal Procedure Act seeks to address systemic challenges in the Act, particularly in relation to provisions that deal with arrest, bail, alternative dispute resolution (ADR), and victim participation in the criminal justice process. The four discussion papers cover the pre-trial stage:
(1) Arrest Dispensation Reform;
(2) Bail System Reform;
(3) Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR); and
(4) Victim Centric Reforms.
The trial and post-trial aspects will be covered in discussion papers to be released at a later stage. The briefing will be addressed by Mr Andries Nel, Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development; Ms Polly Boshielo, Deputy Minister of Police; Ms Lindiwe Ntshalintshali, Deputy Minister of Correctional Services, Mr Ganief Hendricks, Deputy Minister of Social Development.
The participation of Deputy Ministers from the Justice, Crime Prevention, and Security (JCPS) Cluster underscores government’s holistic approach to strengthening the entire criminal justice value chain and fostering an integrated, victim-centered, and effective justice system.
