Deputy Minister Jeffery to address the LGBTIQ+ Stakeholders at Multi Stakeholder Dialogue to review the Nation Intervention Strategy for the LGBTIQ+ Sector

01 December 2020

As part of the 16 Days of Activism Campaign, it is important to focus on the promotion and protection of LGBTIQ+ persons, as their rights are often violated because of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

The Deputy Minister of Department of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mr John Jeffery, will deliver an opening address at the multi-stakeholder dialogue to review the LGBTIQ+ National Intervention Strategy (“NIS”) at the Premier Hotel, Kempton Park, on Wednesday 02 December 2020.  The Dialogue will be attended by government and civil society.

The National Intervention Strategy emphasizes the need to create awareness of the rights of LGBTIQ+ people and to create a society which recognises the needs and challenges experienced by LGBTIQ+ people, within the context of GBV.

The Dialogue aims to create a joint way forward that includes meaningful commitment and ongoing engagement, as well as clearly defined areas of responsibility and output.
