The Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Ronald Lamola will on Wednesday, 8 January 2020, continue with the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development’s efforts to fight gender-based violence by holding an Under-the-Tree Dialogue for men and boys in Upington at the Toll Speelman Civil Hall.
Under-the-Tree Dialogues are being undertaken across the country to vigorously engage with men and boys with the intention to change patriarchal attitudes and beliefs which tend to contribute to gender inequality – a factor which contributes towards gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF). The dialogues seek to re-socialise men by introducing alternative gender norms and aim in the long term, to shift society towards taking a preventative, rather than a responsive stance towards GBVF.
The dialogues form part of the Department’s programme to respond to Government’s National Emergency Response Plan to GBVF, as announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
