30 August 2016

The Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Advocate Michael Masutha calls on all South Africans to submit their inputs on the National Action Plan to Combat Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerances (NAP) by 31 August 2016.

Minister Masutha condemns the incidents of racism particularly, that continue to persist in our country, the most recent of which occurred at Pretoria Girls’ High School. He enjoins the nation to find a solution to these and other forms of discrimination and intolerances by making their comments to the draft NAP.

The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development, in collaboration with various role players, spearheaded the development of the draft NAP with the aim of, among others, providing a basis for the development of a comprehensive public policy against all forms of discrimination and intolerance.

The NAP is not intended to replace existing laws and policies but rather to be complimentary to the existing legislation, policies and framework which address equality, equity and transformation.

The draft NAP was approved by Cabinet on 09 December 2015 and has been made available on the departmental website for public comments since 18 December 2015.Consultations have been hosted countrywide by the Department to solicit the views, inputs and comments of all sectors of society so that a comprehensive and inclusive plan is developed.

The draft NAP will be submitted to Cabinet for approval during the course of the financial year.
