Human Rights Month launch in Dimbaza

Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Mr. Ronald Lamola together with Sports, Arts and Culture Minister, Mr. Nathi Mthethwa launched the Human Rights Month at Moses Twebe Community hall in Dimbaza in the Eastern Cape.

This year’s human rights month is celebrated under the theme “The year of Charlotte Maxeke: Promoting Human Rights in the Age of COVID-19”.

Amongst others, in keeping with the celebrations, Government departments, NGOs and the private sectors held a series of activities in the form of workshops, symposiums, Anti-racism week, Preamble week and other gatherings throughout the country. The main commemorative event on 21 March 2021 took place on virtual platforms as part of measures to reduce the rampant spread of the virus since the country is still on lockdown.

Speaking at the event, Minister Lamola said it is deeply fulfilling that this very important month is celebrated in the name of stalwart and heroine, Mme Charlotte Maxeke. “Let each of us say, as long as there are still those whose rights are violated and undermined, the struggle continues. We are standing on the shoulders of giants, including Mme Maxeke, and in her memory, let us recommit ourselves as activists for Human Rights for all”.
