President Cyril Ramaphosa has acknowledged that while there is still progress to be made - government has made strides in the advancement of human rights. Ramaphosa says since the dawn of democracy, government has shown its commitment to democracy, the rule of law and to the protection of human rights. Speaking at the National Conference on 30 Years of Human Rights taking place in Ekurhuleni, the president outlined the pieces of legislation that have been passed that give effect to the Constitution.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has stressed that South Africa will always be at the forefront at the fight for human rights. Ramaphosa has addressed the National Conference on 30 Years of Human Rights in South Africa, in Ekurhuleni. This comes after Pretoria took Israel to the International Court of Justice over the Gaza war. The Court ordered Israel to prevent any acts of genocide in the enclave, but the conflict continues.

The National Conference on 30 Years of Human Rights in South Africa kicked off in Boksburg this morning. Over the course of three days, key stakeholders and government departments will reflect on the 30 years of South Africa's transformation agenda and the efforts made towards promoting democracy, development, and human rights. While addressing the conference, Chief Justice Raymond Zondo told delegates that South African courts have to date enforced all the rights set out in the Bill of Rights.

To observe this milestone, local and international stakeholders will for the next three days convene here in Boksburg as part of the National Conference on Human Rights in South Africa. The Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Mr Ronald Lamola, will on Thursday, 5 May 2022, officially launch the Year of Community campaign at Carolina in Mpumalanga province. The Year of Community is part of the department’s efforts to encourage citizens to value and uphold their rights as enshrined in the Constitution and promote active participation by the public in the implementation of justice services. This inaugural launch will unfold as an Imbizo with a focus on Gender Based Violence and Femicide.
Both the launch and the Imbizo will be held in line with access to justice and Constitutional imperative.
