Minister Lamola sends-off Justice Athletics Team for Comrades Marathon Race

The Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Mr Ronald Lamola earlier today sent off a Justice Departmental athletics team.

The team departed earlier today for the 94th Comrades’ Marathon which is taking place on Sunday, 09 June 2019 in Durban, KwaZulu- Natal. These participating athletes will be wearing orange scarves in an effort to raise awareness in the fight against Gender Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF). The scarves are printed messages that are in condemnation of GBVF.

In his remarks of well wishes for the team the Minister said, “GBVF has reached alarming and worrisome proportions countrywide. We all have a role to play in making our communities safer. Our athletes’ participation in this marathon will reaffirm the department’s commitment and continued efforts to eradicate this scourge.”

The department has also secured the exhibition stall at the Comrades Marathon expo centre where it will share departmental information material and GBVF scarves to all patrons who will be at the marathon.
