Minister Masutha to deliver Keynote Adress at the opening of the National Forum on Sexual Offences

The Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Advocate Michael Masutha (MP), will deliver the keynote address at the opening of the National Forum on the Implementation of the Sexual Offences Act at Emperor’s Palace, Kempton Park, Gauteng on 30 October 2017.

The forum, which is a joint initiative of the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development and the National Prosecuting Authority, is scheduled to be held over 30 - 31 October 2017, and will serve as a platform for stakeholders to critically evaluate the implementation and impact of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act, 2007 (the Sexual Offences Act).

Participants in the forum will include delegates from key government departments and State organs, various NGOs, as well as national and international delegates and dignitaries in the sector. The focus of the National Forum will be on reporting of sexual offences investigations, medico-legal and social services to the victims, and court processes. The forum will also seek to come up with strategies to address key challenges to the justice system’s response to sexual offences.
