Minister Masutha to sign extension agreement between the SA Government and the Swiss Confederation on the re-engineering of Small Claims Courts

The Minister of Justice and Correctional Services Adv. Michael Masutha (MP) will sign a R4 million extension agreement with the Swiss Confederation on the re-engineering of Small Claims Courts on Monday, 11 May 2015. The agreement which has been implemented in two phases from 2007 to 2011 is aimed at improving the functioning and efficiency of the Small Claims Courts.
The Small Claims Courts are a mechanism to provide access to justice to the people, especially the poor. These Courts are based on speed, simplicity and cost effectiveness. They were created with the view to eliminate time-consuming adversarial procedures before and during a civil trial.
