Justice officials commemorate June 16, in uniform

June is celebrated as Youth Month in South Africa, with a specific focus June 16, which is also known as Youth Day. 

Youth  Month pays tribute to the school pupils who lost their lives during the 16 June 1976 uprising in Soweto. This year marks the 39th annivesary of the Soweto uprising under the theme, “ Youth Moving South Africa Foward”.

Remembering the youth of 1976 and the role they played in the country’s struggle for democracy and education, the Department of Justice and Constitutional  Development’s officials commemorated the day on 15 June 2015, by wearing school uniforms and singing struggle songs at the departmnent’s foyer, Momentum Building.
