3rd IDAHO (International Day Against Homophobia) Forum in Budva, Montenegro

The Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mr John Jeffery, MP, was invited by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Montenegro to deliver a key note address at the 3rd IDAHO (International Day Against Homophobia) Forum in Budva, Montenegro, 11-12 May 2015. The Forum was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Dusko Markovic, various Ministers and Deputy Ministers of the European Union, Members of the European Parliament and the European Commission, officials from the European Governmental Focal Points as well as members of international and national non-governmental organizations dealing with LGBTI issues.

The Forum welcomed the Deputy Minister's address noting with appreciation the steps taken by the Government of the Republic of South Africa to protect the rights of LGBTI (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Transgender and Intersex) persons.

The Deputy Minister also participated in the informal Ministerial meeting for Ministers in the EU and the Balkans as well as the 14th Roundtable European Governmental LGBTI focal points Network.

In commemorating the International Day against Homophobia to be celebrated on 17 May 2015, the Honourable Deputy Minister reminded the esteemed audience "that if the world could overcome apartheid then we can overcome homophobia".
