Justice and stakeholders enjoy a game of golf
Despite the scorching heat of 34 degrees, senior management from the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development, officials from the Departments of Correctional Services and Defence, various strategic partners from the private sector were still able to enjoy a game of golf which took place at the Woodhill Country Club on 5 December 2014.
The idea behind the annual Justice Gold Day is for senior management and stakeholders to interact in an informal way outside the work environment. It is also an opportunity to strengthening relations with various stakeholders whilst having fun at the same time. Among those who attended from the department were the Director-General, Ms Nonkululeko Sindane, who is famous for her excellent golfing skills and the Chief Operating Officer (COO), Dr Khotso De Wee.
In his address at the golf day prize giving dinner, Deputy Minister John Jeffrey said he was delighted to be part of such an event and also highlighted the importance of interacting with stakeholders to build good relationships. “We all know that in our department, we are a big family and we are always too busy to get a chance to sit around and chat. Golf day provides us with a platform to get to know each other on a personal level,” he said.
About 78 players were grouped in pairs and assigned holes where they played with and against each other. They were given score cards to record their scores and based on those scores from each pair, winners emerged.
Mr Peter Lekgethe from the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), who was amongst the winners said; “I am very happy that I have played well this year. This event offered us a great platform to touch base with the department and enabled us to connect in a less stressful environment.”
The golf day was a success, all thanks to the sponsors like Huawei, Datarcentrix, Mustek, Lexis Nexis, EOH Nedbank, and the Department of Correctional Services, who contributed immensely to make the day a success. Mr Xuesong Li from the Huawei Company said they were happy to be part of the golf day. He further said; “I practised a lot before coming to play and I am happy we were able to assist as this is for a good course. We are proud to be associated with such officials.”
After a long day all the players attended a prize giving dinner where winners were presented with their prizes.
