Participants wave justice flag at Spar Women’s Challenge

Over a hundred female officials in the department chose to end the Women’s Month with a kick by taking part in an annual Women’s 5 and 10 km walk and run hosted by the Spar Supermarket.

Energised and ready to prove that justice women are not only speedy when it comes to service delivery , justice women in their numbers treaded the Supersport Park in Centurion, on 29 August 2014, geared up in trainers, sun screen and represented the department with their bright orange caps.

Ms Taunia Fouche, Assistant Director: Employment Equity said as a member of the department’s organising committee for this year’s participation, she felt it was a good idea for the department to participate in the race as a way of boosting the morale and promoting unity amongst officials through sports.

“I participated in the 5km walk as it was a personal goal that I wanted to achieve. I had not participated in race and walk events in years so completing this challenge showed me that I can still do it,” she said.

Ms Beatrice De Klerk, Assistant Master at the South Gauteng Master of the High Court said this was her first challenge and she enjoyed it. She participated in the biggest race of the day which was the 10 km run.

“I take pride in knowing that for the first time, I challenged myself in participating in the race while also representing the department. The event was well organised and I enjoyed the challenge. I will definitely register to participate again next year,” Ms De Klerk said.

Ms Rosemary Toka, Assistant Director: Employee Health and Wellness said it was motivating to see so many women from the department reaching the finish line and supporting the initiative “Judging from the excitement and turnout from all officials who took part in the race, we are planning on participating again as a department in the coming years. The response from officials was very positive,” Ms Toka added.

All participants in the race were awarded medals and gift bags, courtesy of Spar for completing the 5 and 10 km challenge.
