Cassim Inquiry into the National Director of Public Prosecutions’ fitness to hold office, 2015

THE Presidency on the 20th February 2015 published the terms of reference and the rules for an inquiry into the fitness of Mxolisi Nxasana to hold office as National Director of Public Prosecutions.

The inquiry is expected to conclude its work within six weeks, and along with consideration of Mr Nxasana’s brushes with the law will also consider whether his comments to the media had undermined his office and brought the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) into disrepute.

On Thursday, 05 February 2015, the Presidency announced that President Jacob Zuma had established the inquiry, appointing Advocate Nazeer Cassim (SC) as the chairperson of the enquiry, with advocate Lindi Nkosi-Thomas (SC) and advocate Sthembiso Mdladla, appointed as additional members.
